At Fundación Tropicalia we are convinced there is extensive value in international collaboration to expand development opportunities for the communities we work with, and for this reason, we approached the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to request the assignment of one of their Japanese program volunteers to collaborate with us in Miches (JICA).

The project “Inclusion of Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) in the Sustainable Tourism Supply Chain in Miches” has been implemented since 2013 by Fundación Tropicalia in partnership with the Multilateral Investment Fund of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB/MIF) with a global investment of almost a million dollars.

This initiative, led by Fundación Tropicalia in partnership with the Multilateral Investment Fund of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB / MIF), seeks to empower local producers and entrepreneurs.

2016 has been a year full of progress and positive news for COOPROMI (Cooperative of production, work and multiple services of Miches).

As part of our project 'Inclusion of the Micro and Small Enterprise into the Sustainable Tourism Supply Chain in Miches', we have developed ¡Miches, sí! (or “Miches, Yes!”): a business program focused on strengthening local business and supporting new ventures that cater to tourism and agricultural sustainability.

Through our project 'Inclusion of Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) in the Sustainable Tourism Supply Chain in Miches', we support a group of thirty-two local producers involved in the cultivation of ginger in the municipality. After ten months of productive work, last week we sent our first shipment of ginger for commercialization in Santo Domingo’s Market.

Fundación Tropicalia has made great progress in the execution of the project “Inclusion of the Micro and Small Enterprise Sustainable Tourism Supply Chain in Miches” that it co-finances with the IDB / MIF.

Sofia Perazzo, Executive Director of Fundacion Tropicalia, sat with the Shared Value Initiative to discuss Tropicalia’s shared value strategies that integrate Miches and surrounding communities into the tourism sector via an inclusive business model.

Representatives from IDB/MIF, as well as internal team members that oversee the execution of the project, paid Miches a visit to oversee the advances of our project, The Inclusion of Micro and Small Enterprises in the Sustainable Tourism Supply Chain in Miches.

The month of August has proven to be quite monumental for the BID/FOMIN project, the 36-month development project which will organically certify 300-500 agricultural producers and will establish 5-10 micro and small businesses (MSEs) to supply goods and services to Tropicalia and other anchor companies, as we officially kick off the project.

Nearly a year ago Fundación Tropicalia, USAID and REDDOM joined forces to execute an agricultural diversification and food security program aimed at benefitting three rice associations in Miches.

Fundación Tropicalia is proud to announce that they have signed with the Multilateral Investment Fund of the Inter-American Development Bank (MIF-IDB) to support an ambitious project for the “Inclusion of Small and Micro Enterprises in the Sustainable Tourism Supply Chain in Miches” and strengthen the productive capacity of the local Miches economy.

After the official inauguration of the greenhouse a few months back, funded by the USAID-FT Agricultural Diversification Project, we are proud to announce that the incomes of these farming associations have officially increased as they harvest their first round of peppers.

This month Fundación Tropicalia, along with its partners USAID and REDDOM, officially inaugurated two greenhouses in Miches, marking a successful end to the agricultural diversification program that has taken place over the last six months.

Under the scope of the USAID/REDDOM project for agricultural diversification and food security in Miches, Fundación Tropicalia has taken the final steps to bring this project to a close by working closely with the Agricultural Association of La Esperanza.

This month Fundación Tropicalia hosted specialized workshops for the associations of agricultural producers Juan Pablo Duarte and La Esperanza, two organizations working with Fundación Tropicalia and USAID/RED in the greenhouse initiative in Miches.

During the last few months Fundación Tropicalia has been hard at work with its partners USAID and REDDOM on an agricultural diversification project that aims to promote food security and sustainable cultivation practices in Miches.

This month Fundación Tropicalia, under the scope of the USAID/REDDOM project, together with the Agricultural Producers Association Juan Pablo Duarte of the La Gina community, have taken the first steps toward constructing two 600 square metered greenhouses, destined to produce between one and two new vegetable and/or herb crops in the area.

MICHES, Dominican Republic – A mutual commitment to sustainability has led to the Fundación Tropicalia (FT) and the Inter-American Development Bank’s Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF) collaboration.

This month, Fundación Tropicalia received great news from the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF) of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) – our innovative, socio-economic development project which will incorporate local businesses into Tropicalia’s supply chain, received the first of two approvals for funding. Having received “eligibility” status from an IDB commission based in Washington, D.C., technical teams from Fundación Tropicalia and the FOMIN can get to work on designing the minute details of the project and present it for final approval before the year’s end.
