Contributing to the professionalization of the tourism sector is essential to ensuring the integral development of Miches, which harbors an invaluable natural resource: talented young people. At Fundación Tropicalia we remain committed to supporting the sustainable development of Miches as evidenced through our scholarship program created in 2011 in partnership with ISA University (UISA).

The School Fund was created in collaboration with Tropicalia and Fundación Tropicalia partners to purchase school supplies, as well as to help repair the infrastructure needed to provide education to more than 2,000 Miches students by 125 teachers from School District 12-04.

This year we have seen many advances in our initiatives to boost the sustainable development of Miches. We have counted on the participation of community members, children, parents, and teachers, who have all come together to make the future we want a reality.

This past weekend we supported 512 Congress: "The Innovative Power of the Teacher", where 11 individuals from Miches participated in the event, including educators, guidance counselors and coordinators for the educational centers of La Gina, TV Centro La Gina and La Culebra.

Since 2011, Fundación Tropicalia and Universidad ISA (UISA) have shared the same vision, offering opportunities for young talents in the province of El Seibo to better themselves. This is how the scholarship program that fosters inclusion in higher education and cultural exchange is born.

On January 28, we hosted the annual celebration of our School Renovation and Maintenance Program (PRyME) with more than 300 guests from the Miches school community - teachers, principals, community members, etc. - Educational District 12-04, local authorities and the Ministry of Education (MINERD).

Each year, Fundación Tropicalia runs a supplementary activities program in Miches public schools to support students’ interests in and aptitude for the arts and critical and creative thinking.

Over 150 people attended the 7th edition of the PRyME party hosted by Fundación Tropicalia in Miches.

Earlier this fall we were so happy to welcome four more students to the Scholarship Program at Universidad ISA (Instituto Superior de Agricultura or UISA) in partnership with Fundación Tropicalia.

Every year Fundación Tropicalia works with Junior Achievement Dominicana (JADOM) to bring financial literacy courses to high school students in Miches.

In January, Fundación Tropicalia celebrated the seventh annual party that honors the School Renovation and Maintenance Program (PRyME) recognizing their hard work and dedication.

Gustavo A. Roman, our dear friend, team member and General Coordinator of Fundación Tropicalia is the proud recipient of the Cisneros scholarship for Georgetown University’s Global Competitiveness Leadership Program.

After a comprehensive selection process three more Miches high school grads will be joining the ranks as an ISA/FT scholarship student.

This year Lucas Guibbes, an Elementary School located in Miches’ town center, participated in Fundación Tropicalia’s PRyME (School Renovation and Maintenance) program.

As part of our School Renovation and Maintenance Program (PRyME), Fundación Tropicalia restored this sports court located in the TV Centro La Gina High School. Our work included painting, scrubbing and installing basketball hoops alongside volunteers from the local community.

IDB/MIF Project Workshops

Fundación Tropicalia hosted its first workshops for beneficiaries of the IDB/MIF project for the Inclusion of Micro and Small Business in the Sustainable Tourism Supply Chain in Miches.

A celebration for 6 years of continued successful work

Every January, Fundación Tropicalia hosts a party to celebrate the previous year’s accomplishments of the School Renovation and Maintenance Program (PRyME). Since 2008, FT has worked with the Miches School District and the Ministry of Education, to bring the PRyME program to 12 schools in the area.

Enthusiastically Fundación Tropicalia begins the third year of the Scholarship Program FT – UISA, with the arrival of three new students and a broader academic offering.

During the month of August, Fundación Tropicalia, with the support of Fundación Orange, hosted the last session of the “I’m a Girl, I Matter” summer camp for the girls of La Gina ages 10-15.

Part of the continuing efforts of Fundación Tropicalia’s School Renovation and Maintenance Program (PRyME) is to carry out small maintenance projects throughout the year to ensure that schools maintain environments conducive to learning.
