Under the scope of the USAID/REDDOM project for agricultural diversification and food security in Miches, Fundación Tropicalia has taken the final steps to bring this project to a close by working closely with the Agricultural Association of La Esperanza.
This month Fundación Tropicalia hosted specialized workshops for the associations of agricultural producers Juan Pablo Duarte and La Esperanza, two organizations working with Fundación Tropicalia and USAID/RED in the greenhouse initiative in Miches.
During the last few months Fundación Tropicalia has been hard at work with its partners USAID and REDDOM on an agricultural diversification project that aims to promote food security and sustainable cultivation practices in Miches.
Fundación Tropicalia, under the scope of the USAID/REDDOM project, inaugurated Camp Miches Saludable, a one-week summer camp designed to educate children regarding healthy food choices, organic farming and exercise. Thirty eight campers ages 13-18, from the communities La Mina, La Gina and La Culebra, participated in workshops on health, hygiene, organic agriculture and healthy eating, among others.
This month Fundación Tropicalia, under the scope of the USAID/REDDOM project, together with the Agricultural Producers Association Juan Pablo Duarte of the La Gina community, have taken the first steps toward constructing two 600 square metered greenhouses, destined to produce between one and two new vegetable and/or herb crops in the area.
In the third week of September two workshops on Healthy Eating and were held for 60 wives and mothers of the communities benefited by the Agricultural Diversification Project for economic development, food security and local supply in the Municipality of Miches, El Seibo Province. This project is led by Fundación Tropicalia, REDDOM and USAID, and works in the La Gina, La Culebra and La Mina communities.
