In collaboration with the Casa Quien gallery, we launched an exhibition of multidisciplinary contemporary art, titled ‘GLORIA’ that highlights experiences Dominican women face, aimed at generating visibility and raising funds to support the summer camp for girls “I’m a Girl, I’m Important' (SNSI).

SNSI is a camp designed and developed by Fundación Tropicalia for girls living in vulnerable environments in the municipality of Miches. Taking place during the summer months, SNSI promotes a safe, nurturing environment where girls can simply be girls. Via didactic and recreational exercises, we give young girls the guidance and tools they need to be self-reflective, critical thinkers and make better life choices.

“In our eight years of working with the community, we have witnessed the natural beauty and the kind people Miches has to offer, but we have also seen the existing risky conditions for children, especially for girls. For this reason, we thank Casa Quién and the participating artists of 'GLORIA' who joined this beautiful initiative to help improve the living conditions of girls from Miches,” said William Phelan, president of Fundación Tropicalia.

Dominican artists who are involved in 'GLORIA' include: Julianny Ariza, Yael Duval & Jenny Polanco, Quisqueya Henríquez, Raquel Paiewonsky (courtesy of Lucy García), Joiri Minaya, Karla Read, Gina Goico, Belkis Ramírez, Natalia Ortega Gámez and Leslie Jiménez. The exhibition will be open and the artworks will remain available for sale until mid-June.

40% of the proceeds obtained from the purchase of the artwork will go towards the camp; we also welcome cash donations through our online platform snsi.fundaciontropicalia.com and receive in-kind donations such as canned food, pasta or crackers, toys, school supplies, story books, and classes for dance, theater and sports, among others.
