During the month of February every town in the Dominican Republic celebrates Carnaval, a local celebration commemorating the distinct cultures and traditions throughout the country. Each town hosts its own Carnaval parade, incorporating different local customs into costume designs, food, songs and dances. Fundación Tropicalia team members, Gustavo and Kathy, had the privilege of walking in the La Gina School Carnaval, where the parade began at the primary school and ended in the high school. Students of all ages proudly wore their costumes and carried their parade floats or comparsas, all of which were made from recycled materials. Organized and directed by our all-star school principals, Delmira and Felicia, the entire La Gina community came together to make this year’s Carnaval unforgettable.
