The 2023 edition of the Soy niña, soy importante summer camp successfully culminated with the participation of 300 girls from Miches, who for three weeks enjoyed recreational activities with transformational messages that invited them to trust, empower and explore their inner self.
The girls participated in a variety of playful activities such as yoga, soccer, arts and crafts, relay race, spa, and role-playing. Additionally they received workshops on STEAM, turtle awareness and environmental protection, efficient energy use and environmental conservation, harassment and consent, self-identity, and sexual health.
We closed out the camp this year with a viewing of the film Ramona, a documentary that focuses on teenage pregnancy in the Dominican Republic with testimonies of teenagers who have become mothers at an early age. After the movie, the girls engaged in an educational conversation about what they had seen and how those topics impact their daily lives.
We also welcomed three Miami-based Cisneros employees who had the opportunity to travel to the Dominican Republic to participate as camp volunteers this year. This unique experience is part of the organization’s transversal social impact strategy and fulfills Sustainable Development Goal #5: to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.
A GOLF TOURNAMENT WITH A CHARITABLE PURPOSE
Over the summer the magazine Factor de Éxito organized the World Corporate Golf Challenge where Soy niña, soy importante was the beneficiary of charitable donations made on behalf of the players. Prominent entrepreneurs and executives from around the Dominican Republic gathered at the Punta Espada Golf Club to participate in the event and contribute to our organization.
“As a company and as a family, we are very happy, as this is part of our purpose and vision. Being able to contribute to building a better society fills us with immense pride,” said Isabel Cristina Rolo, Executive Director of the publication, an international platform for corporate and business leadership.
