MICHES, Dominican Republic – This month, the Fundación Tropicalia celebrated the 3rd anniversary of its School Renovation and Maintenance Program (PRyME), where it honored many of the achievements acquired throughout its short existence. The Fundación counted with the participation of teachers and directors from the 10 participating schools, as well as, academic directors from other schools in the district and community leaders. Plaques were given out to the new schools admitted to the program in 2011, and awards were given to those schools that won the PRyME contest. Certificates were also handed to the teachers that had participated in the Professional Development for Teachers Program (AME).
William Phelan, president of Fundación Tropicalia, took this opportunity to share details on plans for the program in 2012. The focus this year will be on maintenance and the program proposes to support maintenance committees as an initiative to protect the well-being of academic spaces on a long term scale. Mr. Phelan also added that they were accepting request forms until the 15th of March, for schools who wish to participate in the PRyME contest, where they will compete for admission to the program.
