Through our project 'Inclusion of Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) in the Sustainable Tourism Supply Chain in Miches', we support a group of thirty-two local producers involved in the cultivation of ginger in the municipality. After ten months of productive work, last week we sent our first shipment of ginger for commercialization in Santo Domingo’s Market.
Despite the effects of last year's prolonged drought, we’ve had a positive start and achieved a harvest of ginger with which farmers have secured the planting material for the next cycle, have begun to sell and, above all, have taken away lessons learned from this crop which will continue to diversify the local supply.
Miches’ ginger has been cultivated with organic products, without the use of harmful chemicals for both consumers’ health and the environment.
'Inclusion of Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) in the Sustainable Tourism Supply Chain in Miches' is an initiative of Fundación Tropicalia and supported by the Multilateral Investment Fund of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB / MIF), which seeks to strengthen the productive capacity of the local agricultural sector, encouraging growth through access to new markets and creating a base of local suppliers.
