Every participant of Soy niña, soy importante embarks on a journey of self-recognition and self-worth, developing the confidence to know that she is capable of achieving her most cherished dreams. Such is the case of the photographic mural "Listen to me, I am the present", a project that gives a microphone to the girls who participate in our initiative so they can say strong and loud what it means to a girl for them.

Soy niña, soy importante forms part of the Global Wellness Institute’s new digital film series, “In Pursuit of Wellness: The art & science of living well,” which explores the importance of wellness in every aspect of life, covering 17 inspirational stories of wellbeing from across the globe. One of the stories, “Taking Charge” features a Dominican girl living in a rural community whose image of herself transforms as a result of participating in Soy niña, soy importante.

Fundación Tropicalia and The Canadian Fund join forces for the social inclusion of Dominican girls and the fight against gender violence
Fundación Tropicalia, through its program ‘Soy niña, soy importante’ (‘I’m a Girl, I’m Important or SNSI); and the Embassy of Canada in the Dominican Republic, signed an agreement for the development of the project 'SNSI in a Box', aimed at strengthening female inclusion and empowerment, as well as reducing risks of gender-based violence during the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the months of July and August we celebrated the fourth edition of “Soy niña, soy importante” (SNSI) or I’m a girl, I’m Important all-girls summer day camp. This year we were able to meet our goal yet again - 250 girls ages 9-12 from Miches had the summer of their lives!
